Meghan Markle and Prince Harry officially close UK offices

It’s official.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s British offices are closed, as the couple’s royal-free life officially begins as of April 1. Taking to Twitter, the Daily Mail’s royal editor Rebecca English also shared an automated response from the pair, indicating the transition is in effect.

“Many thanks for your email. The office for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex has now closed,” the message read Wednesday, English said.

Meghan and Harry’s Buckingham Palace offices officially shuttered Tuesday, the Evening Standard previously reported.

On Monday, the Sussexes — who have since fled to California from Canada with their son 10-month-old son Archie amid the coronavirus pandemic — officially axed their Sussex Royal brand in recent days, posting a final message to their 11.3 million followers on Instagram.

“Thank you to this community – for the support, the inspiration and the shared commitment to the good in the world. We look forward to reconnecting with you soon. You’ve been great!” the message read. “Until then, please take good care of yourselves, and of one another.”

In February, Meghan, 38, and Harry, 35, revealed they would not move forward with the “Sussex Royal” brand, also making it clear the monarchy does not rule the word “royal.”

“While there is not any jurisdiction by The Monarchy or Cabinet Office over the use of the word ‘Royal’ overseas, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not intend to use ‘Sussex Royal’ or any iteration of the word ‘Royal’ in any territory (either within the UK or otherwise) when the transition occurs Spring 2020,” the Sussexes’ statement read at the time.

Meghan and Harry wrapped their royal engagements in early March, joining the royal family for Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey in London.

With the Sussexes now stateside, Prince Charles will reportedly shell out the $2.5 million-per-year security cost for his younger son’s family.
