NFF, Joseph Yobo celebrate Taribo West at 46

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has celebrated former Super Eagles defender, Taribo West, on his 46th birthday.

Taribo, now a preacher, is famous for his solid defensive performances and colourful hairstyles during his playing years.

NFF tweeted on Thursday, saying: “Happy birthday to Pastor Taribo West.”

Taribo played for local sides Obanta United, Sharks, Enugu Rangers and Julius Berger before beginning his European journey with Auxerre in 1993.

Former Eagles’ captain, Joseph Yobo, wrote on Instagram: “Happy Birthday to the Legend and my Big Bro Taribo West 🙌🏾.”

Taribo later featured for Inter Milan, rivals AC Milan, Derby County (on loan), FC Kaiserslautern in Germany, Partizan, Al-Arabi, Plymouth Argyle and Paykan before his retirement.

The centre-back had 42 caps for the Nigeria national team after making his debut against Sweden in May 1994.

He was also part of the team that won the 1996 Olympic gold medal and played a key role as the Super Eagles finished as runners-up and third at the 2000 and 2002 Africa Cup of Nations respectively.

The legend represented Nigeria in two World Cup tournaments.

His final game for the Super Eagles was in a friendly against Libya in August 2005.
