If anyone knows the dos and don’ts of party etiquette, it’s event planner Mindy Weiss.
Boasting a lengthy roster of clients which includes Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber, Heidi Klum and Tom Kaulitz, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello and many, many more, Weiss gave Page Six Style some tips on gifting the hosts at your upcoming holiday parties.
“Let’s start with regifting,” Weiss told us during Shutterfly’s annual holiday celebration earlier this month. “I highly suggest not regifting, because people don’t examine the gift hard enough and often there’s a name from somebody else within that regifted gift.”
Surprisingly, she also said gifting alcohol isn’t the best idea, unless you do your research on what the recipient likes and doesn’t like. Otherwise, your present will be wasted.
“I think a candle or anything fragrant is a bad idea because that’s a very personal gift,” Weiss added. “It’s an easy hostess gift, but fragrance can be a very personal thing and will be regifted most often.”
On the flip side, she said, “Anything that is personalized is a great gift. Because it shows that you took time to order it, have it in time to gift it and they can’t return it. They can’t regift your gift.”
Continued Weiss, “A lot of people are buying books. Mostly art books, history books of the city that they’re in … or what they’re into. But a book is a really thoughtful gift.”
