Billie Eilish has become so well-known for her outrageous looks that she’s barely recognizable with brown hair.
The 17-year-old “Bad Guy” singer debuted her music video for “Xanny” on Thursday with a dramatically made-under look. Sitting in an all-white tile room on a matching couch, she wears a monochromatic cream-colored turtleneck and pants.
While the simple wardrobe choice alone is enough to stun fans of Eilish, who is often seen wearing oversized graphic T-shirts with baggy pants, colorful logos and neon designs, it’s her hair color that is most shocking. The simple brown hue is a far cry from her neon-orange roots with jet-black tips or the mullet cut she’s been sporting lately, but it is as close to her natural hair color as fans have seen from Eilish since her rise to fame.
In the past, Eilish has spoken about her hair-coloring mishaps, including dyeing the strands blue and then being unable to get rid of the color, as well as burning off pieces of her hair from over-processing it.
The “Xanny” music video — which features people putting out their cigarettes on her face and includes lyrics like “I don’t need a xanny to feel better / On designated drives home / Only one who’s not stoned / Don’t give me a xanny now or ever” — is Eilish’s directorial debut, which could indicated that this stripped-down look is here to stay.
Or, more likely, she’ll be back to outrageous hair colors by the holidays.
