‘SNL’ cast member Shane Gillis offers to apologize for racial slur

New “Saturday Night Live” cast member Shane Gillis has offered to apologize to anyone offended by his use of an Asian slur during an old comedy set.

Gillis, whose hiring was announced this week alongside Chloe Fineman and Bowen Yang, came under fire Thursday after a resurfaced video posted to a YouTube channel called “Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast” showed him using the slur.

“Chinatown’s f—ing nuts,” Gillis said to comedian Matt McCusker in a segment of the longer YouTube video, which has since been deleted. “Let the f—ing c—-s live there.”

Many called for Gillis to be fired before he even made it on the air at NBC.

The comedian later offered to apologize to anyone who was offended by his use of the slur but didn’t actually say he was sorry for the bit.

“I’m a comedian who pushes boundaries,” he wrote in the Notes app message. “I sometimes miss. If you go through my 10 years of comedy, most of it bad, you’re going to find a lot of bad misses. I’m happy to apologize to anyone who’s actually offended by anything I’ve said.

“My intention is never to hurt anyone but I am trying to be the best comedian I can be and sometimes that requires risks.”

NBC didn’t immediately return Page Six’s request for comment.
