“Southern Charm” star Naomie Olindo got glammed up by some of the best in the Bravo biz for a day of drama.
“Housewives” hair guru Julius Michael and resident “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” makeup artist Caroline Blanchard gave Olindo, 27, a show-stopping look for the show’s Season 6 reunion taping, inspired in part by the striking fuchsia Likely “Cassidy” dress ($198) she chose for the occasion.
“The whole creativity begins right from, ‘Okay, what are you wearing,’” Blanchard told Page Six Style. “Hopefully, I’ll get a picture of the dress and then I start thinking about colors and I start looking at pictures and I start thinking of inspiration.”
“When it came to her eyeshadow, I didn’t want it to be too matchy-matchy,” she continued. “I didn’t want to have fuchsia eyes, fuchsia dress, and so it worked for me to try and find a balance where I could pick up on hints of the color.”
In the end, Blanchard went for a blend of purple and pink shadows that played off the dress, along with Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Viper ($22). “I was able to soften that up and just buff it out, make like a nice trace of this deep purple,” she said.
“Then I went into a kind of soft blush on her cheeks [using Nars Exposed Cheek Palette ($59)], and I kept her lips as a simple nude pink [Too Faced Melted Latex Liquified High Shine Lipstick ($21)] topped off with a gloss just to kind of keep everything aglow. Of course, just dusting off the face with some highlighter [Thrive Causemetics Cosmo Power 3D Strobing Highlighter ($34)] is always key for that, too.”
But the trickiest part of any makeup look, Blanchard said, is the lashes; for Olindo, she went with ones from Huda Beauty ($20).
“Everyone’s got a different-shaped eye, everybody’s got a different sensitivity to their eye,” she explained. “It’s a beautiful day if I can put one on and then done, but that is not always the case. I wouldn’t want anyone walking out with wonky eyes. I make sure that everything’s even, that the client is comfortable with the lashes, that they look good. The rest of it is a cakewalk.”
Michael, meanwhile, used a bevy of Chi products — including Silk Infusion Silk Reconstructing Complex ($49.50), Infra Texture Hair Spray ($16.50) and Shine Infusion Hair Shine Spray ($16) — along with Hidden Crown Hair Extensions and Pulleez to create Olindo’s hairstyle, a playful ponytail the reality star deemed the “sassiest [she’s] ever had.”
“I don’t like to do crazy looks that I know could fall in an hour … and not that I play it safe, because a ponytail is very sexy and ‘in,’ but I know the longevity in that kind of look,” he explained. “And it also complements the makeup too.”
Ultimately, Blanchard said, it’s all about keeping the client in mind.
“We read the room when it comes to a reunion,” she said. “You have different personalities for each one, you know, a group of people that you’re working with. This is a whole Southern crew; you can tell that they don’t want anything outlandish, and they don’t want over-the-top. They want to look glam, but not overdone.”
Clearly, Olindo was into her final look. “Already tried to redo the hair and makeup myself but of course ended up looking like a dingus,” she wrote on Instagram.
“Southern Charm” airs Wednesday nights on Bravo at 9 p.m. ET.
